about

Get your dancing shoes on and move to this trance dance, chant, global afro-world groove!

This tune came from an improvisation between Pablo Rodriguez, vocals, and myself on MalletKat, playing a sampled Balinese Tinglik created from one of the bamboo instruments in my private collection.

While some of the improvisations used as a basis for the upcoming Natural Compass album came out of the air whole and complete, others required a lot of work to shape into organized compositions. This piece is definitely of the latter camp. Yet even though the original improvisation is highly edited, the original "bones" of the improvisation are still there. Thus for the most part, what you hear literally came out of the air.

After the piece was brought into form, I laid down a bass part, Rhodes piano and some synth pads. Later, Tiger Paw came in to overdub congas, bells, shakers etc to replace the original loops.
